Wm Foster Traction Engine Canopy

This canopy was built for a brand new Foster traction engine using the original drawings. Made out of Ash, the boards were all machined to the correct thickness and width. The roof covering is a 14oz canvas sheet which is adhered onto the boards using a linseed based canvas bonding.

John Fowler & Co Living Van

Wm Allchin Rack Saw Bench

This is an early example of a Fowler ploughing contractors van, built in Leeds in the late 1870’s/ early 1880’s. Five men would live in this van during the winter months travelling from farm to farm with two ploughing traction engines, plough, and water cart.

The living van was stripped back to every nut and bolt and extensively rebuilt, consuming many hours and tins of paint!

This saw bench was supplied new to Scampston estate in the early 1900’s and would have been powered by a portable steam engine.

The remaining timbers were pieced together in order to create a pattern, from which a new frame was built. All metal work has been cleaned and re painted. This project is still ongoing and will be over 40ft long when completed.
